Training Schedule / Attendance Requirement

Please note: The minimum training schedule attendance requirement is set out below. Ensure that you stay on track towards your next grading by completing the specified requirement for each grade.

8^th Kyu (Yellow) – 4^th Kyu (Purple)

For each grade (belt)

Experience needed: Minimum 3 months plus a minimum of 20 lessons

3^rd Kyu (Brown) – Shodan (Black Belt)

For each grade (belt)

Experience needed: Minimum 6 months from last grading plus a minimum of 40 lessons

For Black Belts

All courses plus referees seminar

Additional training must be completed

Student Categories: By Age

Cadet – Any student under 16 years of age

Adult – Any student over 16 years of age

Gradings:

Each grade (belt) has 10 sections.

Each section on the grading is marked ‘Pass” or ‘Fail”.

A pass to the next grade (belt) is achieved by getting six or more sections at pass standard on the grade being attempted. A distinction is added to the grade if the student achieves a pass in all 10 sections.

Minimum Age Requirements for Dan Grades (Black Belts)

Shodan 1^st Dan – Minimum age 10 years; Will normally take between 3-4 years to reach this standard.

Nidan 2^nd Dan – Minimum age 14 years; 2 years experience and full training schedule requirement from last grading.

Sandan 3^rd Dan – Minimum age 18 years; 3 years experience and full training schedule requirement from last grading.

Yondan 4^th Dan – Minimum age 22 years; Minimum 4 years training from last grading and invitations to grade from SSU Chief Instructor.

Godan 5^th Dan - Minimum age 27 years; Minimum 5 years training from last grading and invitations to grade from SSU Chief Instructor.
